Early Life
May 21 1960- November 28, 1994
Jeffery Dahmer was born on May 21, 1960 in West Allis, Wisconsin. His two parents Joyce and Lionel Dahmer seven years later had another boy, David. As a young child Jeffery seemed to be a happy child until he underwent a hernia surgery at the age of six. After this surgery Jeffery's personality began to change from a social kid to one that was increasingly withdrawn and uncommunicative. When Jeffery was eight years old he and his family moved to Bath, Ohio for his dad's new job. This move to ohio caused Jeffery to become more insecure and anti-social.
Between the ages of 10 and 15 Dahmer became very uncommunicative and did not show much interest in social interactions or hobbies. While in Ohio, Jeffery would ride his bike around the neighborhood looking for dead animals to take home or into the woods near his home and dissect. Although he showed anti-social aspects throughout high school, and was ultimately an out-cast, he was still seen as somewhat as a cult figure among some at Revere High School due to his impressions of his of his mom's interior designer. Dahmer began to drink in his teens, and had become an alcoholic by the time of his high school graduation. In 1977 Dahmer's parents divorced.
This was all before he attended Ohio State University for one quarter until he dropped out after failing to attend his classes. While Dahmer was at Ohio State he was drunk the majority of the time. After he dropped out of Ohio State his father forced him to enlist in the army. Jeffery did well in the army until he was discharged after two years because of his excess drinking. When he was discharged he was given a plane ticket to anywhere in the country. Jeffery decided to go to Florida, because he claimed he was tired of the cold, and could not go home and face his dad. He spent most of his time in a hospital but eventually was kicked out because of his drinking.
When he returned home he continued to drink and eventually was arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct. In 1982 Dahmer moved in with his grandma in West Allis, Wisconsin. On two different occasions his grandmother found a fully dressed mannequin in Jeffery's closet and a .357 magnum under his bed. While Jeffery lived with his grandmother terrible smells would come from the basement. About five years after Jeffery's first offense he was arrested for masturbating in front of two boys. Two years after his second offense Jeffery's grandmother kicked him out because of his strange behavior, late nights, and the gross smells that came from her basement. After being kicked out of his grandmother's house Jeffery found an apartment that was closer to the chocolate factory that he worked at. The day after Dahmer moved into his new apartment he was arrested for drugging and sexually fondling a 13-year-old boy. Dahmer was sentenced to five years probation and one year in a work release camp. Jeffery was paroled two weeks early from the work release camp, but was required to register as a sex offender.
